Two years ago our first year student Jassim Aba Al-Khail sadly passed away. It was the personal desire of Dr. Mohammed Aba Al-Khail to make a gift to Maastricht University, in commemoration of his beloved son. To this end, a fund was created at the Limburg University Fund that bears Jassim’s name and honors his life.

On September 1st 2018, Peter Peters will be officially appointed as Professor of Innovation of Classical Music at Maastricht University and will stand at the helm of the newly-founded Maastricht Centre for the Innovation of Classical Music (MCICM). Proposed and initiated by the director and intendant of the South Netherlands Philharmonic, Stefan Rosu, the MCICM is set to become an interdisciplinary research institute that will support revitalising developments in the classical music sector.

The NurSus project has won the 2018 Guardian University Award in the category 'Sustainability Project'. The NurSus-project focused on developing open access online education materials for teaching sustainability in nursing and health care programmes. The NurSusTOOLKIT (www.nursus.eu) was funded by the Erasmus+ programme and developed by academics at Plymouth University (lead partner), University of Jaen, Esslingen University of Applied Sciences and Maastricht University (ICIS).

André Rieu and Claudia Sarti, the director of The InnBetween, fired the starting shot for the 5th edition of Duckrace Maastricht, which drew great public interest on Sunday. No fewer than 10,000 little plastic ducks were sold in the run-up to the race. Some 3,000 of these cute yellow creatures took part on behalf of UM rector Rianne Letschert and Karin van der Ven, founder of Jules student services.
