Work pressure & well-being

As of 2024, the projects ‘Work pressure’ and ‘Social Safety’ are merged into the project ‘Work pressure and Well-being’.

In the upcoming period, the team members aim to identify and address early career researchers’ (i.e. postdocs, assistant professors and associate professors) needs related to the experience of work pressure and wellbeing within UM.

Specific plans are to organise a series of events related to ‘Speaking Up’ and to launch a blog-type series in which early-career academics share what their typical day or work week looks like. Additionally, MYA intends to collaborate with the UM colleagues who are conducting the Sustainable Employability Monitor.

Between the Lines - Dialogue Series

The Invisible Load

What happens in Budapest stays in Budapest – Therese Grohnert

On May 20, the new MYA initiative ‘Between the Lines’ was launched. The aim of this initiative is to bring early and mid career academics at UM together to discuss topics relating to work pressure and well-being in a safe and confidential environment. In this first session, we welcomed colleagues in the MBB Budapest room to discuss the theme ‘the invisible load’. While enjoying smoothies and donuts, we talked about how we sometimes find ourselves spending a lot of time on tasks that are not actually part of our contract, as well as other cases. It was valuable hearing from others that they sometimes experience similar challenges, but the sharing of perspectives also resulted in ideas on how these challenges could be addressed.

We will schedule follow-up sessions for the next academic year. Will you join us?

MYA book club: Complaint! by Sara Ahmed

MYA, together with the Diversity & Inclusivity (D&I) Office and the Jan van Eyck Academie, organised a book club on Sarah Ahmed’s Complaint!

This book club was open to all students and employees of UM as well as to participants of the Jan van Eyck Academie.

We provided a nice lunch as we discussed excerpts from Ahmed’s book during lunchtime in a series of three sessions.
