YUFE

Young Universities for the Future of Europe

The YUFE Alliance is based on the joint vision of ten young research-intensive universities and two non-academic partners located all across Europe. The YUFE partners came together based on their shared dedication to the European spirit, their common aim to contribute to a more competitive, innovative and united Europe and their ambition to help address today’s challenges.

About YUFE

The cooperation within YUFE originated from the Young European Research Universities Network (YERUN), which includes seven of YUFE’s academic institutions. This prior collaboration enabled them to engage in several joint activities. Their aspiration to establish a European University is fuelled by a desire to enhance employability, implement embedded mobility schemes for students and staff, promote inclusive higher education, and invest in the active learning of European languages.

YUFE for students

A truly European experience

Why study at one university, when you can study at multiple! YUFE allows you to build your European curriculum while you continue to study for your degree.

YUFE embraces an open curriculum philosophy, which means that students have the opportunity to self-design parts of their learning path. YUFE education allows students to tailor their course selection, and align their academic journey with their individual interests. Completing YUFE education equips students with essential academic skills, while cultivating transferable competencies and a strong learner autonomy.

YUFE Bachelor

Still in the implementation phase, yet expected to be launched in academic year 25/26 is the joint programme bachelor Urban Sustainability Studies. This undergraduate programme offered jointly by the consortium of universities within the YUFE alliance, responds to the need for interdisciplinary professionals in the field of urban sustainability.

The Bachelor of Urban Sustainability Studies is structured as a three-year programme consisting of 180 ECTS. It is based on a student-centred open-curriculum approach, offering a high degree of learner autonomy with students primarily in charge of their own learning. The majority of the YUFE Bachelor courses are taught onsite and in English. The programme also contains multiple opportunities for taking up academic courses online, for (foreign) language learning and for improving students’ Academic English skills. Students will spend at minimum two semesters pursuing a minor at one or two other partner universities within the consortium. This approach offers students the chance to broaden their academic horizons and experience different European cultures and perspectives.
