Dr. Ramon Ottenheijm is a general practitioner and scientist at the Department of Family Medicine at Maastricht University. His scientific research and teaching are primarily focused on musculoskeletal complaints and ultrasound imaging, particularly in the context of shoulder complaints and osteoarthritis. In 2015, he obtained his PhD in the field of shoulder ultrasound imaging. Beyond his academic endeavors, he dedicates three days a week to his role as a general practitioner, specialized in musculoskeletal disorders and ultrasound imaging. After practicing in general medicine for two decades, he has transitioned to orthopedic interface clinics, which he co-founded. These clinics are renowned for their multidisciplinary approach. Furthermore, he serves as the chair of the osteoarthritis committee within the Dutch College of General Practitioners' expert group Het Beweegkader, an association of general practitioners with a special interest in musculoskeletal disorders.
