Since the combined burden of all rare diseases is considerable, the focus of research has shifted predominantly towards the medical and care needs of rare diseases a decade ago. However, only since 2007, within the Seventh Framework Programmes for research, around €620 million was established to fund 120 research projects on rare diseases which focus lays on Europe-wide studies of natural history, pathophysiology … were removed.
