They study at UM, do their utmost to get their degree, but also have another big ambition: they want to reach the top in their sport. Young people who set everything aside to train hard alongside their studies and participate in high-level competitions. Real go-getters, in other words. What does it mean to play top-level sport alongside your university education? We ask some top UM athletes in this series of stories. International showjumper Babs Kerkhoffs is the first.
The bachelor’s programme in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence now offers the opportunity – in collaboration with Brightlands-based BSSC and BISS – for third-year students to complete a semester project with a company or organization.
A team of 13 UM students has won a silver medal in the prestigious iGEM competition in synthetic biology. The team focused on combating the oak processionary caterpillar.

Global climate change is an issue that Arthur Bribosia (UCM) and Marion Meyers (DKE) feel very strongly about. Strong enough to take action. Last May, they got 3000 people out on the street to join the first climate march in Maastricht. For the next march, scheduled for 20 September, they’re hoping for 5000 participants.
