The topics for the ITEM’s annual Cross-Border Impact Assessment 2022 have been selected and the research phase is now well underway. The final reports will be presented at the ITEM Annual Conference, November 18th 2022.

In July 2021, the flooding of small towns and cities in the area between Bonn-Liege-Maastricht caused enormous material damage and human misery. In the Netherlands, Valkenburg was flooded, in Belgium Pepinster was greatly damaged and in Germany the Ahrtal (a touristic wine-growing area) and several old towns in the Eifel area were washed out by floods up to 8 meters above their normal level.

PhD thesis written by Marjolein van Everdingen. This dissertation deals with the application of residence related rules to persons with a dual residence. It describes the role of residence in Dutch social security law in general and the phenomenon of dual residence in particular.

Like a number of other universities in the Netherlands and elsewhere in the world, UM has its own Open Science Community (OSCM), a bottom-up organisation supported by ten volunteers, including seven ambassadors within the faculties. One of them is PhD candidate Matthijs Sloep, a data engineer at MAASTRO Clinic and the UM Department of Clinical Data Science.

Last month, dr. Maud Huynen participated in the UNESCO World Higher Education Conference (WHEC2022, May 18-20, Barcelona). Together with colleagues from various universities,  she hosted a round-table session relating to the work and experiences within the Worldwide Universities Network (WUN) Education in a Warming World research consortium (including the associated report and podcast series). The WHEC2022 conference also provided a platform for several global initiatives and events relating to sustainability in higher education.

Why do investors hold Socially responsible investments (SRIs)?

This blog shows insights into a project that examines investors’ true motives for SRI. The researchers conducted a lab experiment to adopt novel methods to elicit investors’ beliefs, ambiguity perceptions, and norm-following propensities on SRIs.
