Climate change, depletion of natural resources, environmental pollution... Consciously and unconsciously, we burden future generations with problems because we created a mess. But, how can you consciously take this into account if this group has no rights?

Maastricht University takes care of many distinctive buildings that we all know. By giving them a new purpose, we preserve these icons and give them a new meaning, making them the vibrant heart of a bustling city. 

It has come to the attention of Maastricht University’s Executive Board and Management Team via an anonymous email that six of the protesters who have been allowed to stay in the garden of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASoS) have embarked on a hunger strike as of today until their demands are met. We take the situation and in particular the safety of everyone in our community very seriously and will continue to seek dialogue and a way forward with the protesters. We will update you as soon as we have more information.

Maastricht University has decided that some of the protesters at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASoS) may remain present at night for the time being in the role of ‘observers’. The condition is that the protests remain non-violent and the agreements made by UM and the activists are kept.

Today, a delegation from the University Council entered into talks with the activists. That consultation went ‘respectfully and substantively’, the president of the University Council said.

Maastricht University's Executive Board and Management Team have agreed to allow a group of ‘observers’ to stay in the FASoS garden for the the second consecutive night. This will take place under the same conditions as last night. This decision follows yet another day of peaceful actions and dialogue with members of the internal university community.

Peaceful Gaza protests and tent camp at FASoS as UM’s Executive Board and faculty continue dialogue with activists.

The Executive Board of Maastricht University, the faculty board of the Faculty of Arts and Socials Sciences (FASoS), and the campaigning students and staff have agreed that a small group of 'observers' can remain on the grounds of FASoS tonight. The rest of the protesters have left the premises. The agreement applies specifically to tonight. After that, the situation will be reviewed on a day-by-day basis.

On 3 and 4 April 2024, Philzuid hosted the concert ‘Philstories” at Opus 9 in the Mariaberg neighborhood. Together with Prof. dr. Peter Peters and dr. Veerle Spronck, musicians and staff of Philzuid contacted residents and neighborhood organizations in Mariaberg. During dinners, meetings and cycling with a bakfiets (cargo bike) with a speaker, the neighbors discussed the role of music in their everyday lives. They collected stories and created a concert program.
