In 2019, it seems more logical to make a scan of the armpit glands to determine whether breast cancer has spread, rather than surgery to remove the glands (the sentinel lymph node operation). For many women, the latter leads to long-term complaints, such as a stiff shoulder and accumulation of fluid in the arm (lymphedema). Until now, it wasn’t technically possible to make such a scan reliably. In a few years, researchers at Maastricht hope to change this through a study using the only PET-MRI scanner in the Netherlands.

During the Dutch Food Week, Bart Vos hosted the interactive workshop ‘Sustainable food, how does it get on our plate?’ at BISCI’s home turf, the Villa Flora in Venlo. While the focus of the Dutch Food Week is mainly on what we eat, Bart’s workshop addressed how we get food where we want to consume it.

The conference 'Populism and Democracy' brings together scholars of constitutional law and political science from around the world to discuss the influence of populist politics on constitutional developments, the reasons for success or failure of constitutional defences, and potential ways out of the global crisis of liberal democracy. The conference will take place on Friday, 24 April 2020 at UM Campus Brussels.
