S. Heeneman

Sylvia Heeneman is a Professor of Health Professions Education at the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences (FHML), School of Health Professions Education (SHE), Maastricht University, Maastricht, The Netherlands. She studied Health Sciences at Maastricht University (graduated 1991) and completed a PhD in Cardiovascular Research at the Cardiovascular Research Institute Maastricht, Maastricht University (graduated 1997). From 1997 – 2017, her research activities in cardiovascular research were: mechanisms of atherosclerosis, and specifically radiation-induced atherosclerosis, and molecular imaging of atherosclerosis. She completed the Master Health Profession Education (MHPE) program in 2014. Her current research interests in the health professions education field are (programmatic) assessment in undergraduate and post-graduate medical education, professional performance, portfolio and mentoring. She has supervised and is supervising various PhD candidates (within the Netherlands and international) in these topics. Within Maastricht University, she is the program director of the Bachelor of Medicine and the Chair of the Board of Examiners of the Bachelor of Brain Sciences (Faculty Psychology). In addition, she is involved in faculty development/ education in under- and postgraduate medical education (feedback and assessment) and gives workshops worldwide to educate and assist professionals in the use of programmatic assessment and mentoring in their courses and programmes.
