Main applicant Pamela Habibovic receives the grant within the Open Technology Programme (OTP) for the project ‘Development of instructive composite biomaterials for craniomaxillofacial Regeneration’. Damaged and diseased bones in the region of head, face and jaws are common, and are conventionally treated using metallic or polymeric implants, which poorly bond to the surrounding bone. As a result, failure of such implants is common. In this project, a team consisting of materials scientists, engineers and clinicians from the Department of Cnariomaxillofacia Surgey of the MUMC+ and supported by SMEs in the field of biomaterials and medical devices will collaborate to develop novel, patient-specific bioactive implants for craniomaxillofacial bone defects, by combining innovative biomaterials with 3D printing techniques.
