How sustainable and healthy is the new all-vegetable food line?
Under the name "Terra," Albert Heijn has introduced a 100 percent plant-based product line, with some two hundred different food items ranging from beverages to spreads and meat substitutes. How sustainable and healthy are these products?
Is the Terra range really that sustainable and healthy? 'The two things are not automatically synonymous,' says food scientist Alie de Boer of Maastricht University. 'Vegetable products are indeed generally more sustainable and climate-friendly than animal products. But to be a full alternative, they must also have the same nutritional value." This does not always turn out to be the case.
