Flavia Patanè (F.)

Flavia Patanè is a PhD reseacher and a tutor at the Faculty of Law of Maastricht University. Her research studies the involvement of irregular migrants in human smuggling activities and examines the responses to this phenomenon by different legal (criminal and asylum) systems in Europe, with a particular focus on Italy and the Netherlands. By using an empirical research method, Flavia's study combines criminological and criminal law theories with asylum and human rights theories on migration. Next to her research, Flavia teaches courses on International Criminal Law and suvranational criminology of gross human rights violations. She is also a qualified lawyer and a member of the Board of the Maastricht Centre for Human Rights.
