Sven Hildebrand (S.)
I am an Assistant Professor in Prof. Alard Roebroeck's group (https://www.cbclab.org) where I work in the structural investigation of (primarily) the human neocrotex. To do so, I am developing 3D histological techniques for optical tissue clearing and labelling. Since my background is in biology, my interest lies not only in human neuroanatomy, but also in how the brain's organization varies between different animals.
I started my studies in 2009, at the Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg, Germany, where I obtained my B.Sc. in Biology. After that, I acquired my M.Sc. in Technical Biology at the Technische Universität Darmstadt, where I also worked as a research assistant for 9 months in the lab of Prof. Ralf Galuske. It was during my work in this group, when my fascination for neuroanatomy and histology started to develop. I began my PhD at Maastricht University in 2016 under the supervision of Prof. Alard Roebroeck with the focus on the development of optical clearing methods for human brain tissue, which I finished in 2021 with cum laude distinction.
Since 2023, I work as an Assistant Professor in Prof. Roebroecks group on the the investigation of the human neocortical anatomy at the meso- and microscale and further development of 3D histology techniques to accomplish this.
