Jean Monnet specialized lecture by Rike Dekker (AOMB) on IP policy making

Rike Dekker, Senior European and Dutch patent attorney, will speak about what shapes IP policy and what the different interests by various stakeholders can be on specific IP regulation.

IP laws are not created by legislators alone. There is often a strong interaction with different stakeholders. These stakeholders can be multinationals, SME’s, professional organizations, IP offices etc. This presentation will illustrate with practical examples how this process works. The presentation will be mainly based on the development of patent law, in particular on a European level and in the Netherlands. It will show how the different stakeholders work together. As an example, the implementation of the “breeders exemption” in the Dutch Patent Act will be discussed.IP laws are not created by legislators alone.
