Call for participants - ITEM DigiD Survey

Expertise Centre ITEM is researching a number of aspects in relation to cross-border work. One of the issues currently in the spotlight is the (im)possibility to get a DigiD. A DigiD is a digital identity which can be used to communicate online with Dutch governmental-, health-, and other institutions. ITEM is looking to gather information on how many people would like to use a DigiD, but find that they are unable to obtain it.

Expertise Centre ITEM researches a number of aspects in relation to cross-border work. One of the issues currently in the spotlight is the (im)possibility to get a DigiD. A DigiD is a digital identity which can be used to communicate online with around 1000 Dutch governmental-, health-, and other institutions. The DigiD allows persons to take care of their affairs with these institutions online. Some of these institutions provide another login option, at other websites, the only remaining option without a DigiD, is using the postal service to receive and provide information.

The starting point for DigiD, is that only persons who live in the Netherlands, can receive such a login. There is an exception for persons living outside the Netherlands who have the Dutch citizenship: through a special procedure, these people can also receive a DigiD. This exception however does not cover most people who live outside the Netherlands and, for example, work in the Netherlands.

ITEM is looking to gather information on how many people would like to use a DigiD, but find that they are unable to apply for it. We are also interested how your communication with institutions is affected by this.

Do you live outside the Netherlands and don’t have the Dutch nationality? Are you unable to apply for a DigiD although it would help you communicate with institutions? Please fill out our survey before 29 April!
