Study abroad at a partner university
The International Relations Office (IRO) of the Maastricht University School of Business and Economics (SBE) is responsible for initiating; organising and coordinating student exchanges at bachelor’s and master’s level.
A master exchange takes place on top of the regular master’s curriculum and will therefore appear as an extra-curricular activity on your transcript. You will extend your one-year master’s programme with a semester at one of SBE’s partner universities.

Our School has more than 150 exchange contracts with universities and institutions in over 40 countries worldwide.

We're here to help.

Eligibility
Students from every one-year, full-time SBE master’s programme (except for the Master in Public Policy and Human Development) can apply for a master’s exchange semester. A master’s exchange is only possible after having completed all compulsory parts of your SBE master’s programme.
Selection
The selection will take place during the first semester of your master’s programme. The IRO aims at selecting students that possess the right qualifications and motivation to study abroad. Not only motivation and academic achievements but also personal situation and preferences are taken into account. We try to find a perfect match between the candidate and the host university. Know that applying does not automatically guarantee you a spot.
Financial matters
If you are selected for an exchange via the IRO, you are exempted from paying tuition fees at the host university. However, you are required to continue paying tuition fees at Maastricht University for the entire period of their semester abroad. In addition, an administration fee of €500 will be charged for going on exchange. The administration fee does not replace the Maastricht University tuition fees.
Keep in mind that there may also be other costs associated with your exchange programme, other than of course travel costs, insurance and living expenses. For example, some partners require that you purchase the university’s health insurance plan, or pay a contribution towards certain activities.
