"Improving uptake of Prevention of Mother to-Child Transmission services in Sudan"

This thesis investigated the role of individual and environmental level factors in relation to the Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT) of HIV. The overall objective of the research was to contribute to improving uptake of Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission services in Sudan. This thesis presents solid assessment to better understand the role of individual and environmental level factors in relation to the uptake of PMTCT services in Sudan. In addition, itt shed slight on how a health facility-based intervention aimed at increasing the HIV testing among pregnant women was planned, implemented and evaluated. The thesis utilizes data from various sources, such as surveys, hospital records, and interviews with pregnant women, health workers, and hospital management. And its final chapter it provides a general discussion of the findings presented in the whole thesis. With a reflections on the methodology used as well as practical implications. The results showed that the uptake of PMTCT in Sudan is low. The ultimate analysis in this thesis found that women in reproductive age & pregnant women in Sudan are willing to enrol in PMTCT services if both the individual and environmental level determinants are adequately addressed.
