Obesity plays an important role in the development of various metabolic disorders, including fatty liver disease. Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is fatty liver disease combined with hepatitis. The presence of liver disease can lead to the further development of chronic liver diseases, such as fibrosis, cirrhosis and, ultimately, liver failure. The only effective cure for liver failure is a liver transplant. This is why it's important to detect NASH at an early stage or to prevent it entirely. The current diagnostic methods used to detect NASH are invasive and extremely limited and there are very few options in terms of prevention. This dissertation offers promising new solutions for the prevention and non-invasive detection of NASH. The results also lay an important foundation for the development of new treatment options for hepatitis.
