We are active users of the Internet for many different reasons (our private lives, commercial activities, contacts with the administration and state, etc.). In this context, personal information about us and about others is processed, with or without our knowledge or consent. For how long? For what purposes? Where? By whom? Who can have access to our data? What are our rights in this area? A new General Data Protection Regulation has been adopted in 2016 and will enter into force in 25 May 2018 (Regulation (EU) 2016/679). This new Regulation builds on existing data protection rules and brings new principles, rights and obligations to ensure the protection of individuals and the respect for their fundamental rights, in particular, the right to the protection of personal data. During the Lecture, we will examine the main principles of data protection law, the main changes of the new Regulation, and we will focus on the international aspects of this legal framework.
