Global Citizenship Education Symposium

EDLAB invites UM students, teachers, and community stakeholders to the Global Citizenship Education Symposium. This event will take place on 1 March at the Akenzaal, Universiteitssingel 40. Join the event and discuss and learn what it takes to become a global citizen. Register by sending an e-mail to edlab-info@maastrichtuniversity.nl before 27 February.

Over the past few months, a group of students and teachers from all UM faculties collaborated on the Global Citizenship Education (GCE) project at EDLAB, Maastricht University Institute for Education Innovation. GCE aims at creating awareness within the UM community in the field of social responsibility, civic engagement and competence at a local and global level through intra- and extra-curricular activities.

During this symposium, we propose a holistic approach to GCE that targets students, teachers, the institution, and external stakeholders. Project results will be presented and discussed by the UM community. A design thinking session will help ideate how global citizenship can be acquired in a problem-based learning environment.

What else can you expect?

  • A panel discussion with external stakeholders (e.g. UNESCO, One Young World, De Bildung Academie);
  • An interactive session with the audience to learn and discuss about GCE in the PBL context;
  • A wrap-up session with key recommendations for future UM activities.
