Metal Organic Frameworks for Hydrogen Production by Photocatalytic Overall Water Splitting

MOF2H2

MOF2H2 is an EU-funded project aimed at validating, at laboratory-scale, a world record efficiency of a durable MOF-based photocatalysts for sun-driven Hydrogen production through prototypes with fine-tuned materials dedicated to H2 production for use in various potential market applications.

The MOF2H2 project positions itself as a game changer to produce hydrogen from water through a more sustainable process: photocatalytic overall water splitting using non-noble materials.

Maastricht University is involved in MOF2H2 through the Aachen-Maastricht Institute for Biobased Materials (AMIBM), a European, cross-border research Institute focusing on the development of advanced biobased materials. AMIBM will perform a detailed sustainability assessment (environmental Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Social LCA) to establish guidelines for pinpointing the source(s) of unsustainability concerning the environment and society, as well as assess the economic potential of the technology developed.
