FSE Faculty Day

Welcome to the UM Sustainability Week's Faculty of Science and Engineering Faculty Day. Our program features lectures, workshops, and panel discussions on sustainability topics specific to the fields of science and engineering. Our expert panelists and workshop leaders include professionals from academia, industry, and NGOs who will share their knowledge and experiences on various aspects of sustainability in science and engineering. This is a great opportunity to learn about the latest developments and trends in sustainability, network with professionals in the field, and gain practical knowledge on how to promote sustainable practices within the scientific and engineering professions.

How to Start a Sustainable Startup - Lecture & Pizza

Tuesday 5th of May

Kombucha Workshop - by Maashrooms

Curious about making your own kombucha? This interactive 2-hour session begins with a short introduction to fermentation and the world of mushrooms, followed by a hands-on workshop where you’ll brew your own batch. You’ll leave with 1L of starter to continue at home, and wrap up the session with tea, snacks, and an open discussion.

Wednesday 6th of May

DIY Oyster Candles    

Got old candles lying around? Bring them along and turn them into something totally new. In this creative session, you’ll melt and remould leftover wax into unique candles, using oyster shells as natural holders. It’s a relaxed, hands-on way to experiment to unwind and turn “waste” into something aesthetic.

Thursday 7th of May

DIY Birdfeeder    

Join us in turning everyday waste into something meaningful in this hands-on workshop. You’ll create your own bird feeder using old plastic bottles while exploring simple, practical ways to reuse and recycle materials. A fun and creative way to support local wildlife and rethink waste.

Friday 8th of May

Recycled Plastics Lab - By Doorspace

A laid-back, hands-on session where sustainability meets making. At Doorspace, you’ll create your own coasters from recycled plastic, shaping and pressing the material before adding your own finishing touches. Come for the experience, leave with something you made yourself.
