What is BioDesign?

This presentation highlights newly developed materials and applications that utilise biology for design, art and architecture.

These explorations advance the possibility of working with life in a variety of ways, from supporting a building with trees to recycling waste and growing fabric with microbes.

Several of these experiments attempt to align our behaviour with the preservation of natural resources, to erect bridges between ecosystems and the built environment, and to demonstrate that the two can benefit and ultimately sustain one another.

This talk is based in part on the book BioDesign: Nature + Science + Creativity by William Myers, published by MoMA in 2012.

In cooperation with TOPOS - Architectuurcentrum - Maastricht.
