Canceled: Power and Democracy

The start of this series is postponed to next year, the exact date is still unknown. Those who registered will be informed by mail.

In the 21st century, humanity struggles with three major issues: the growing gap between rich and poor, the climate catastrophe and tensions between people with a different culture, lifestyle or religion. The question is whether the problems associated with these issues can be solved in a democratic way. Do the existing power relations frustrate a democratic solution for these problems? Is capitalism compatible with democracy and sustainability? And if that is not the case, what are the alternatives? Degrowth? Nowtopias? By focusing on power and democracy, an answer is given to these questions. This series addresses, among other things, the following themes: the anthropocene, big data, commons, digitalization, cosmopolitanism, digital division, neoliberalism, media power, neo-fascism, patriotism, populism, the public sphere, surveillance, post-democracy, the end of capitalism and resistance.
