The Dutch-Flemish Accreditation Organisation (NVAO) have allocated the funds after positively assessing the "quality agreements" UM had drawn up. Funds for these quality agreements were made available when the loan system was abolished a few years ago. It was then agreed that savings should go towards improving education. However, universities are only awarded the extra resources if they formulate concrete plans (approved by the stakeholder representatives) around six predefined themes, such as small-scale intensive education, better supervision of students and professional training for teachers.
