Patty Nelemans is a clinical epidemiologist and uses her methodological and statistical expertise to help clinical researchers with the design and analysis of studies. She closely collaborates with various departments of the Maastricht University Medical Center in Maastricht. As a member of many project teams, she has supported and advised PhD students (several as co-promotor) and co-authored > 200 papers in national and international medical journals. 

She studied Medicine and obtained her medical degree at the University of Nijmegen. After finishing her thesis on environmental risk indicators for cutaneous melanoma, The Dutch Epidemiologic Society (VvE) certified her as Epidemiologist B and she is SMBWO certified.

 

Close cooperation exists with many disciplines, but most research activities have concentrated within the domains of radiology and dermatology.  Special expertise exists with respect to several research themes:

- Randomized controlled trials and diagnostic studies on diagnosis and treatment of (pre-)malignant lesions in dermatology

- Diagnostic studies on radiologic imaging with MRA and MRI for diagnosis of cardiovascular and oncologic disease

- Systematic reviews and meta-analyses of randomized controlled trials, diagnostic studies and prognostic studies

- The evaluation of patient compliance by electronic monitoring and the effect on clinical outcome.
