Aart van Apeldoorn (A. A.)

Aart van Apeldoorn is currently an assistant Professor in the cBITE department at the MERLN institute for Technology Inspired Regenerative Medicine. He aims to develop a bioartificial pancreas for extrahepatic islet transplantation. His research is focused on developing bioengineering technologies for pancreatic tissue engineering, islet delivery devices, and basic research on the islet extracellular matrix. He maintains a number of international and national collaborations and received a number of research grants, including JDRF and the Dutch Diabetes Research foundation. He is involved in RegMed XB as a research leader for the type 1 diabetes moonshot project.
