Conference on the Future of Europe, citizen’s panels

European Institute of Public Administration (EIPA) and Studio Europa Maastricht from Maastricht University (SEM) have been selected by the European institutions to offer expertise and support to a pan-European citizens’ summit that will be organised as part of the Conference on the Future of Europe. In addition to Maastricht, citizens’ panels will be held in Dublin, Florence and Warsaw.

The Maastricht panels will become a platform for dialogue addressing the topics EU in the world and migration. Two hundred randomly selected participants will have a chance to engage at various locations.

What is the Conference on the Future of Europe?

The third citizens’ panel in the context of the Conference on the Future of Europe will take place in Maastricht. What exactly does this entail? And why in Maastricht? In a six-part web series by Studio Europa Maastricht, these and other questions are answered by mayor Annemarie Penn-te Strake, UM President Rianne Letschert, UM Professor Professor of Contemporary European History and Europe Chair Mathieu Segers, and others. Watch all episodes here.

Studio Europa Maastricht organises several initiatives related to this conference, but also related to the 30th anniversary of the Maastricht Treaty. For instance, you can watch a live broadcast on 7 February 2022, in which Vice President of the European Commission Frans Timmermans reflects on the past three decades of European unification before an audience of 30 Europeans born after 1992.

The Conference on the Future of Europe and the 30th anniversary of the Maastricht Treaty are plenty of reasons for the European university of the Netherlands to launch a new series of stories, and to publish an overview of all of our 'UM and Europe' information. Read more.
