Using your existing DigiD from abroad

To apply for a DigiD, you must have a Dutch residential address and a Dutch citizen service number (BSN). It is not available to international applicants who have not previously lived in the Netherlands. 

DigiD problems when using it from abroad

If you have a DigiD and are applying to or re-enrolling at UM from abroad, it is good to know that sometimes DigiD is only available to a limited extent from outside of the Netherlands. This could, for example, be due to DDoS attacks. If you are worried about missing a deadline for your UM application or enrolment, please contact the Student Services Centre. Studielink also has alternative methods of identification that you can use if your problem is on their platform.

If you move abroad, your DigiD expires

If you move abroad, for instance because you decide to live near Maastricht in Belgium or Germany, your DigiD will become invalid as result of your address change. You will then need to log in to Studielink in a different way. If this is the case for you, please send an email to our ICTS Service Desk at servicedesk-icts@maastrichtuniversity.nl stating that you wish to convert your DigiD authentication into a Studielink authentication.
