New accommodation for Campus Venlo
On 10 October, the official opening of the new Campus Venlo accommodation took place. Maastricht University really outgrew its old location and moved to the former premises of the Labour Council (Raad van de Arbeid) in the Venlo city centre. Dean Aalt Bast opened the new location in a festive manner.
The opening took place between 15.00 and 18.00. The speakers were:
- Dhr. R. van Heugten – Director of Brightlands Campus Greenport Venlo
- Dhr. J. van den Akker – Deputy for Economic Affairs and Knowledge Infrastructure for the Province of Limburg
- Dhr. N. Bos – Vice president Maastricht University
- Dhr. E. Boom - Alderman Erwin Boom (economy), municipality of Venlo
- Dhr. A. Bast – Dean UM Campus Venlo
Maastricht architects InExarchitecten have combined modern educational facilities with original elements from the 1950s, including the steel frames and stained-glass windows. With 28 residential studios for students, a lecture hall, classrooms, offices and a spacious common room plus a grassy outdoor area, everything is in easy reach. The new site gives the campus room to grow while retaining its sense of a close-knit community.

Students of the bachelor’s programme University College Venlo and the master’s programmes Health Food & Innovation Management and Global Supply Chain Management & Change were already welcomed on the new site earlier. This August, the introduction days for students based at Campus Venlo were held at the new location.
On 26 October the Campus Venlo Open Day will take place.
