A successful Bachelor's Open Day with a good atmosphere

A large turnout and a good atmosphere, the first on-campus Bachelor’s Open Day since the beginning of the COVID crisis was a great success. Over 3200 prospective students visited the faculties of Maastricht University last Saturday. In a safe and responsible way.

Face masks, keeping distance and other anti-COVID measures; Saturday's Bachelor Open Day was not quite as it used to be, but both participants and organisers were happy that this biannual orientation day was held on campus once again. Tasting the atmosphere and exploring the campus and the city is and remains an important aspect of choosing a study and that was what everyone was able to do on Saturday.

Prospective students received information about our programmes, our Problem-Based Learning method and what it’s like to study in Maastricht. They could also participate in tours, both on campus and in the inner city.

Most sessions were fully booked well in advance. As expected, the vast majority of visitors came from the Netherlands, but there was also quite a bit of interest from abroad, mainly from Germany and Belgium.

Positive experience

Attendance may have been down from the 2019 peak year, but the rating given via QR code was very high: hovering around nine on average. Here are some of the immediate reactions to the programme presentations and Q&A sessions:

  • “Lots of information provided in an open and friendly manner. Wonderful experience!” - Psychology
  • “Very lucid session full of information.” – Data Science and Artificial Intelligence
  • “Clear insights provided on academic and social aspects of studying in Maastricht by both presenters. Thanx!” – Medicine/Geneeskunde

Furthermore, many visitors were impressed by the smooth organisation, the commitments of students who showed everyone the way, the shuttle buses between Randwyck and the inner city and especially the personal and friendly atmosphere on the day.

Missed the Open Day?

Don't worry: online Q&A sessions are scheduled for each programme from 9 to 12 November. Students will be on hand to answer all your questions.
