"Even tot hier"
 

In his farewell lecture, Nanne de Vries will sketch recent developments in Health Promotion. First, he will illustrate how emphasis has changed from explaining why people behave unhealthily to the systematic design of interventions, increasingly focusing no longer on individual factors. The next subject are the large health differences in the Netherlands, both between subpopulations and between regions. These are related to differences in other policy areas than health itself, e.g. the ageing population, poverty, unsafety. Therefore policy should target those areas. After development of interventions, problems of implementation arise when adapting these to different contexts. This results in a plea for a systems approach of health promotion, in addition to the more usual prevention of illness. Finally some attention will be given to experiences in the governance of Maastricht University and MUMC+.
