Marta Pertegás Sender (M.)

Marta Pertegás (1969) is the current Holder of the Chair on Private International Law and Transnational Law at Maastricht University. She succeeded René de Groot in that position on 15 April 2018.

Marta Pertegás joined the Faculty as a renowned expert in the field of private international law. She possesses practical experience in the codification of private international law and in treaty negotiations, as well as a wide international network. 

Besides her 0,8 FTE Chair at Maastricht University, Marta holds a 0,2 FTE position since 2002 at Antwerp University, a YUFE Full Partner University, and is a Visiting Professor of the University of Johannesburg in South Africa since 2019.  

Marta’s main research areas of interest are the function of private international law in the interaction between legal orders, the relationship between global and regional private international law and the transformative effects of globalization in (private) law. She is one of the Co-Directors of M-EPLI since 2020.

Marta works with other colleagues on the organisation of PAX Moot, an international moot court competition in the area of private international law.

At our Faculty, Marta teaches Private International Law Courses in the Dutch Bachelor Programme (Rechtsgeleerdheid) and in the European Law School. She also contributes to other Bachelor and Master courses.
