Mr Gilles Raaijmakers (G.W.J.)

Gilles Raaijmakers has been a legal advisor in employment law at the university's Legal Affairs  department ("afdeling Juridische Zaken", or "JZ") since 2018.

The Legal Affairs department provides strategic advice and support to the Executive Board, faculties and service centres of Maastricht University. Covering a wide area of private and administrative law, the department’s activities are organisation-oriented and conducted for all departments and internal stakeholders of the university. The Legal Affairs department gives advice and monitors compliance with laws and regulations relating to contracts (including their drafting and reviewing), for example, and the overall administration of the university administration. In addition, the Legal Affairs department identifies relevant legal developments and assists in legal procedures.

Gilles specializes in employment law. In 2011, he obtained a master's degree in Employment & Business Law and a master's degree in Private Law (UM). Subsequently, he was an employment lawyer, after which he has been employed as a legal advisor at the university since October 2018. In 2017, Gilles completed the postgraduate specialization course in employment law at the Grotius Academy (Radboud). He is a member of the Dutch Employment Law Association. 

Gilles deals with individual employment law cases (from the commencement to the termination of employment contracts) and also advises the Executive Board and the HR department on the employment law aspects of the university's HR policy (and policy plans). Finally, Gilles is the  executive secretary of the Joint Complaints Committee for Inappropriate Behaviour (UM, Zuyd School for Applied Sciences and Open University).
