Skills4You

Project description

The Skills4You project is part of the EU-funded INTERREG Euregio Meuse-Thine (EMR) program.

In response to the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic on education worldwide, Skills4You offers two kinds of training programs: 1) the development of teachers’ and students’ digital skills 2) the development of teachers’ skills in differentiated instruction. The trainings are tailored, hands-on and free for schools offering secondary and higher education in the Netherlands, Flanders and Wallonia.

Maastricht University is one the consortium partners of Skills4You and focuses on the theme of differentiated instruction. Since the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted and enlarged the differences that exist between students, it has become increasingly important that teachers are skilled to address learning variety by tailoring their teaching activities to meet the needs of individual learners or groups of learners.

The first phase of this project is the identification of professional development needs regarding differentiated instruction in the context of vocational education. The second phase is the development, implementation, and evaluation of a professional development initiative based on the insights obtained in the first phase. Throughout the project, five previously identified principles for effective differentiated instruction are guiding strong goal orientation, continuously monitoring, challenging, adapting instruction and exercises, and stimulating self-regulation (Keuning et al., 2021).
