Projects

MINDS is created by researchers, for researchers. We developed MINDS as an answer to issues we encounter in our everyday experiences researching digitalisation and automation. Two concrete examples illustrate the gains to be made from the MINDS network.

Technequality

Researchers connected to MINDS created and lead the H2020 Technequality project on the societal consequences of automation of work in Europe. Technequality is a multidisciplinary program that unites leading scholars from eight European universities to study how automation and digitalisation affects work, social inequalities, education, social welfare, and public finances. Technequality also hosts a board of policymakers and engages in co-creative efforts to design policy. Through MINDS, Maastricht University researchers are linked to the wider scientific and policy maker networks generated by Technequality.

ai:conomics

In ai:conomics, Researchers linked to MINDS are conducting several large-scale field experiments on the impact of AI on work, in close collaboration with governments, various large corporations, and unions. The goal of these research programs is to assess the empirical impact of AI on tasks, skills requirements, and well-being of workers in various fields and gauge wider macro-level implications. This program is truly interdisciplinary and, although fundamentally driven, strongly oriented towards understanding practical implications. Although bilateral collaborations are forged ad hoc, MINDS allows us to multiply our efforts and maximize utility on a more structural basis.
