Applying to UM as a refugee or asylum seeker
At Maastricht University (UM), we offer a variety of support services for refugees who are applying to study with us. To streamline these services, we have a central contact person you can turn to if you are a refugee or asylum seeker. We want all of our all of our students to feel safe and secure in Maastricht.
Refugees applying to study at Maastricht University
If you are you a refugee and would like to study at Maastricht University, our central contact person for refugees, Luc van den Akker, can help you with:
- the application for diploma evaluation
- finding the right study programme
- finding courses if you do not yet meet the admission requirements for our regular bachelor’s or master’s programmes
- finding ways to finance your studies
- resolving housing issues
- connecting with counselling services for your mental health and wellbeing
- learning Dutch
Luc can also act as an intermediary with your asylum case manager, the Foundation for Refugee Students (UAF) and the surrounding municipalities regarding financial issues and housing. To schedule an appointment, please send an email to refugee@maastrichtuniversity.nl.
Scholarship for refugee residents of the Euregion
The UM-NL Euregional Refugee Scholarship offers tuition waivers for talented refugee residents of the Meuse-Rhine Euregion who have been admitted to a master’s programme at UM.
Support for asylum-seeking and refugee students
If you are a current student and are applying or considering applying for asylum because you’re unable to return to your home country or your parents in danger in your home country, or if you have refugee status, please visit our webpage on support for asylum-seeking and refugee students.
