Children’s and Women’s Rights in Conflict Zones in North Kivu

This lecture will address some of the main challenges of the current political and security situations in East Congo. Human Rights defender Josselin will present his work on documentation and identification of victims of ordinary and international crimes; legal support and raising awareness of victims of human rights violations, specifically victims of international crimes (mass crimes); supervision and preparation of victims for their active participation to trials; analyze and evaluate security and protection issues for victims, witnesses and other people involved. He will address the main security challenges that he has faced as a human rights defender.

Due to his work and activism, Josselin’s security situation has worsened and even his family and colleagues have been facing persecutions because of his work. Josselin is specifically a target because of his work directly accompanying victims. Finally, he will talk about the role that the international community and each one of us play in situations of human rights violations.

Josselin is a Congolese Human Rights Defender (HRD) working to defend and promote human rights, democracy and peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He is the president of a non-governmental organization (NGO) called Blessed Aid
