SDG Seminar: Building the Ecofeminist Movement
Too often, the SDG’s are still regarded in silos. The organisation Women Engage for a Common Future (WECF) is convinced that in order to build a sustainable future and environment a holistic solution, reflecting the lived experience of people at the frontline of the environmental and climate crisis, is needed. At WECF, they take feminist action on three key intersections: sustainable development, climate and energy solutions, and a toxic free future. In their work, ecofeminism is a guiding principle.
During this SDG Seminar, Rebecca Heuvelmans (WECF) will elaborate on what ecofeminism means in theory and practice, take you along the path towards building the ecofeminist movement and share how you too can get engaged.
About WECF
WECF’s philosophy is to ensure that the voices of women and girls, in all their diversity, are heard at the policy table and to combine this with local actions in which they are enabled to realize their priorities: a so called dual “action-advocacy approach”. Feminist solutions based on WECF partners’ visions and needs are the key to unlocking this envisioned common future. Today they work with over 100 network members in over 50 countries and collaborate closely with more than 150 strategic partners from 70 countries.
Rebecca Heuvelmans (she/her) is communications and project officer with the ecofeminist organisation Women Engage for a Common Future. She is a North-American Studies Cum Laude graduate, with a dedicated interest in gender theory and women’s participation in the political sphere. Her recent work for WECF encompasses communicating on international processes and the work of their partners, engaging youth with the intersections between feminism & climate action and managing WECF’s Ecofeminist Movement Building Fund.
SDG Seminar Series
The SDG seminars are intended to approach sustainability issues related to the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN. In these SDG seminar series professionals in sustainability speak about the challenges and chances they face in practice. This is your chance to learn from their experience and to ask your questions! This seminar is related to the synergetic strength of all SDG's.
