"Primary and secondary nonresponse following bariatric surgery"
Nonresponse following bariatric surgery is the biggest challenge in the bariatric field. Some patients seem to lose less weight compared to others or regain an excessive amount of weight after initial adequate weight loss. The research portrayed in this thesis shows the current problems when analyzing or treating nonresponse. There is a worrisome lack of uniform definitions for nonresponse in both literature and current clinical practice. Furthermore, the influence of the gut microbiome and certain intestinal cells was investigated to look for a possible explanation as to why some patients react differently to bariatric surgery in terms of sustainable weight loss.
