“A Critical Review of Global Curriculum Development, Content and Implementation in Oncology”

This PhD dissertation consisted of five studies that explored, through critical approaches, the motivations behind and unintended effects of global curricula in medical education with a focus on oncology. Through this work, the researchers have concluded that the Euro-American, Western perspective is heavily represented in global oncology curricula and that there is a focus on medical expertise underpinned by the biomedical model. The dissertation proposes that diversity plays a critical role in the development and implementation of global curricula and may be a mitigating factor in the challenges commonly seen with these curricula.
