Making Agricultural Trade Sustainable (MATS) Project Meeting
MATS aims to identify key leverage points for changes in agricultural trade policy that foster the positive and reduce the negative impacts of trade on sustainable development and human rights. Particular attention is paid to SDG1 No Poverty, SDG2 Zero Hunger and SDG3 Good Health and Well-being, as well as SDG6 Clean Water, SDG13 Climate Action and SDG15 Life on Land.
Focus is on improving the governance, design and implementation of trade practices, regimes and policies at national, EU, African and global levels. In implementation, MATS develops and pilots new tools for a systemic analysis, and assessment, of the interactions between agricultural trade, investments, sustainability and development.
This is the second project meeting for all participating partners.

The MATS hybrid workshop on May 15&16 2023 for MATS partners, civil society organizations (CSOs) and policymakers will take place at Maastricht University (UM) Campus Brussels (the address: Tervuerenlaan 153, 1150 Sint-Pieters-Woluwe, Belgium).
The workshop aims to
1) enable EU-based MATS partners to meet in person and exchange views related to MATS activities (African partners SEATINI, ESRF, NWU attend online);
2) to build Brussels-based networks for outreach and communication, involving relevant civil society organization and policymaker;
3) to discuss on the first draft report of each case study (ESRF’s and NWU’s case studies via online reporting and discussion).
