Big brother is watching you: digital surveillance and privacy

The debate will be on the nature of digital surveillance, the NSA and privacy. Do we have a right to privacy? Should we be ok with Facebook and Google transferring our personal data straight to the United States? Are we safer with digital surveillance? These questions will all be answered tonight. The exact policy that the teams will have to defend will only be announced 15 minutes in advance, so expect a spontaneous and challenging debate.

Showdebate between debating veterans

We will also have an exciting showdebate between debating veterans from our university. With a more lighthearted topic, these experienced debaters will provide for a fun and humorous oratory battle.

-Hanneke Berman: finalist at the World and European Championships, finalist at more than 10 competitions
-Eduardo Villamor: quarter-finalist at the World Championships, finalist at 5 competitions
-Chris Smith: debate trainer at Warrick debating union, and debated for more than 5 years
-Srjdan Miletic: debate trainers in Maastricht and novice finalist at two competitions
