Lessons from meta-Research: What does a kinder research culture look like?

“…kindness in research culture is possible beyond COVID-19 — and efforts to make the research world a nicer place to work were happening long before the coronavirus crisis.”

Dr. Gemma Derrick conducts research about academic research per se. During the earlier stages of the COVID-19 crisis, Dr Gemma Derrick witnessed an outpouring of kindness from the scientific community that was helpful to battle the fear caused by the pandemic. In this context, she published her famous article in Nature regarding how Covid-19 may kickstart a kinder research culture.

Are you satisfied with the way your research is being evaluated? Have you felt that the definition of academic success is not diverse enough or that the mechanisms of evaluation promote a tunnel vision? Join FEM’s webinar Wednesday 4 November 2020 at 13:00 with Dr. Gemma Derrick on “Lessons from meta-Research: What does a kinder research culture look like?”!

For the second FEM Webinar of this year, Dr Gemma Derrick will expand on this topic for our Maastricht University community and present results from the Pearl Project where she studies the normalisation of failure and the development of a creative, inclusive, and honest research culture.
