Introduction to crystallization and melting behaviors of poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyhexanoate)
Abstract:
Poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyhexanoate) has lower melting point (thus wider processing window), as well as better toughness compared with poly(3-hydroxybutyrate). Due to the introduction of non-crystallizable comonomer 3-hydroxyhexanoate, however, the crystallization rate becomes extremely slow and broad melting range also emerges. Here we studied crystallization kinetics in terms of DSC and POM-Raman combination techniques , as well as SAXS, to investigate PHBH crystal formation and evolution in some details, nucleation/spontaneous fluctuation at the early stage will be mentioned, and melting of different lamellar populations will also be discussed.
This will be a presentation with ample room for discussion.

Dr. Michael Zhang Cheng
Dr. Michael Zhang Cheng is a senior research fellow in the R&D segment at Bluepha Corporation. After graduating from Tsinghua University with a Ph.D. degree in polymer physics, he joined Novozymes for a few years and then moved on to Bluepha. He is now leading fundamental investigations of the physical properties of poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyhexanoate), one kind of polyhydroxyalkanoate.
