Inaugural lecture Prof. dr. Joost Sillen

Appointed professor 'State law'

Title of the lecture: "Law for whom? State law and state law practice by and for another generation"

Concerns about climate change and the decline of biodiversity, about discrimination and exclusion can be increasingly heard in the lecture halls of law schools, as can the desire to contribute to a better world. These concerns and the commitment of a new generation of lawyers are paired with a different view of the academic practice of constitutional law, argues Joost Sillen. In this speech, delivered when he accepts his appointment as professor of constitutional law at Maastricht University, he asks what the consequences are of this different view on constitutional law teaching and research.
