Brain-inspired deep learning

In this talk, Prof. van Gerven will discuss our recent advances in the development of more biologically plausible learning rules that could drive learning in brains and machines.

In recent years, artificial intelligence has made important progress. Much of this progress can be linked to advanced in deep learning, referring to the training of deep neural networks using the backpropagation of error algorithm. However, backprop has been criticised for being biologically implausible. Moreover, its properties may also impede further progress in the field.
