Slotsymposium NSRI: Wat kunnen organisaties doen om de integriteit van onderzoek te bevorderen
Op 5 juli vindt het slotsymposium plaats van de NSRI.
Dit symposium staat open voor alle onderzoekers met interesse in wetenschappelijke integriteit, evenals voor relevante belanghebbenden binnen het onderzoekssysteem.
Het symposium, dat wordt mede georganiseerd met het projectteam van de NSRI en het Netherlands Research Integrity Network (NRIN), wordt een hybride evenement, dat plaatsvindt in Pakhuis de Zwijger in Amsterdam mét livestream.

Call for proposals UM Ethics and Integrity Grant
Het Platform voor Onderzoeksethiek en -integriteit lanceert zijn jaarlijkse oproep voor zijn UM Ethiek en Integriteit Subsidies. Deze subsidie van €10.000 kan worden gebruikt voor elk project of activiteit die gericht is op het bevorderen van Goed Onderzoeksgedrag van onze UM-gemeenschap.
Elk onderwerp kan in aanmerking komen, zolang het maar betrekking heeft op onderzoeksethiek en -integriteit aan de UM.
Let op: de deadline is 30 november 2021.
Stuur voor 30 november een e-mail met een abstract van 300 woorden naar platformrei@maastrichtuniversity.nl . Op basis hiervan zal het platform een eerste selectie maken, en de geselecteerden vervolgens vragen om een meer gedetailleerd voorstel. In januari 2022 wordt de uitslag bekend gemaakt

Kunnen academici activististen zijn? - Een open discussie | 7 december
Veel onderzoekers die maatschappelijk geëngageerd onderzoek doen ervaren een spanning tussen het zijn van objectieve onderzoekers en een verlangen naar activisme. Terwijl sommigen ervan overtuigd zijn dat activisme een kerntaak van de onderzoeker is, hebben anderen moeite om hun persoonlijke opvattingen uit de wetenschappelijke analyse te filteren. Sommigen kunnen stellen dat activisme in de wetenschap beloond zou moeten worden door de universiteit, terwijl anderen ervoor kunnen pleiten om activisme helemaal buiten de universiteit te houden.
Tijdens dit event zullen prof. Pim Martens (SBE), dr. Astrid Offermans (SBE) en prof. Maurice Zeegers (FHML) hun verschillende standpunten over dit onderwerp uiteenzetten en vervolgens met elkaar in discussie gaan.
De discussie zal worden gemodereerd door Prof. Teun Dekker (FSE).
Hybride event
Het evenement vindt plaats in een hybride format, met zowel in-person als virtueel publiek, dat de kans krijgt aan de discussie deel te nemen. Aangezien het evenement live wordt uitgezonden, wordt het publiek uitgenodigd om vragen te stellen via een chatfunctie.
Dit event wordt georganiseerd MPCER en het UM Platform for Research Ethics and Integrity.

Is Open Science the Solution for the Replicability Crisis and Problems of Research Integrity?
In recent years, alarming messages about the poor reproducibility of research findings and breaches of research integrity have appeared in the media.
What exactly is the problem, what can we say about its causes, and are effective solutions at hand? Prof. Lex Bouter (Professor of Methodology and Integrity, VU Amsterdam) will argue that the recent awareness of some problematic aspects of the academic enterprise is a good thing, which should not lead to pessimism. In fact, it opens the road towards improvements and better understanding.
More specifically, his lecture will explore what researchers, their institutions, scientific journals and funding agencies can do to make research more robust and trustworthy.

Plagiarism in education and research
On Tuesday 26 January 2021 from 14:00 to 17:00, the VSNU is organizing a themed afternoon on plagiarism in education and research. This meeting is for members of LOWI, Academic Integrity Committees (CWIs), examination committees and appeal committees of universities, as well as university administrators, academics, students and stakeholders.
During this theme afternoon, we will discuss a number of questions: what are the legal contours of the concept of plagiarism and how do they relate to the requirements imposed on it from the perspective of academic integrity? From a historical point of view, are there any developments in how people think about plagiarism (and originality)? Which best (or: worst ) practices do we find in teaching and scientific research methods?

#MeTooAcademia: The Learning Curve | 1 December 2020
In cooperation with Studium Generale the UM Platform for Research Ethics and Integrity organises a theaterplay. #MeTooAcademia: The Learning Curve will be performed by Het Acteursgenootschap on 1 December.
The Learning Curve is a 40-minute play about sexual intimidation and abuse of power in a university context. It’s both humorous and bleak, and is written to be followed by a discussion.

The REI Call for the Research Ethics & Integrity Grants
The Platform for Research Ethics and Integrity has launched its annual call for their UM Ethics and Integrity Grants. This small Grant of 10k EUR can used for any project or activity aiming to facilitate Good Conduct of Research of our UM community.
Although any topic can be suitable, we specifically invite topics related to the recent changes in the academic climate due to the COVID19 pandemic.
Please note: the call will close on 30 November 2020. For the first round, please e-mail us a 300 words abstracts by 30 November 2020.

National Survey on Research integrity
On 15 October, the National Survey on Research integrity, created by the Dutch research community to gather information on research norms, practices and behavioursis, is launched.
All UM researchers will receive this survey via e-mail. We would truly appreciate your recommendations about how we can improve ways of doing research while benefitting society as a whole.
