Vincent Tadday, BSc Global Studies

Vincent Tadday is studying Global Studies, an interfaculty programme anchored at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Vincent was born and raised in Krefeld, a town of around 227.00 people in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

When we asked him what he studied before he came to FASoS, he stated; “I graduated from high school in 2020, and directly after, I moved to Maastricht to kick-off my academic journey with the BSc in Global Studies. Before the pandemic, I also played water polo on a professional level for the SV Bayer Uerdingen 08, the biggest swimming club in Germany.”

He told us about his favourite courses and shared his thoughts about the programme so far: “co-taught by all six faculties, Global Studies allows me to gain insights into the different disciplines and approaches Maastricht University has to offer. The programme combines truly interdisciplinary education with problem-based learning. As students, we learn how to integrate knowledge from different disciplines to better analyse and intervene in complex, global problems. In this sense, the programme helps me see how different parts of the world are connected through phenomena such as climate change and migration and also to understand my position within this global context. So far, I have literally liked all my courses, and I am thankful for the experiences and knowledge I am allowed to gain! Really eye-opening for me was our semester on Migration & Citizenship because it showed me that it is impossible to understand such a phenomenon without being able to bring the different disciplines such as psychology, economics, and law together.

When we asked him to tell us a little about his student life, he said; “coming out of two years of lock-down, I decided to make the academic year 2021/22 my year to enjoy student life to the fullest. I signed up for different associations and became part of the squash team and the water polo team here in Maastricht. Moreover, with the Permanent Delegation of the United Nations Student Association Maastricht, I travelled around Europe to represent our university in multiple Model United Nations Conferences. Next to my studies, I am also part of the European Careers Association and our study association, the Global Studies Community, and regularly participate in their events. I love that there is always something to do in Maastricht! Last but not least, together with a project team consisting of professors, tutors, and students from all faculties, we applied successfully for the Diversity and Inclusivity Grant of Maastricht University to organise a conference that should uplift the interfaculty discussions around equality and sustainability at our university. I am excited to continue working on that project next academic year!”.

Finally, we asked him to tell us his favourite thing about FASoS. He stated; “I appreciate how every faculty in Maastricht has its own characteristics and atmosphere. What I like most about FASoS are the people! Walking through the buildings, I feel how motivated students, professors, tutors, and staff are to learn from each other. At FASoS, we have a community eager to reflect, learn and discuss, which is something that I value a lot!”
